The kids bugged me and bugged me to take them to the pet store DH and I had found, so that's where we went. We spent quite a bit of time just watching the puppies. The kids miss our Pasha too.
We went back to the apartment, and DH came home from the conference soon after. We all went to lunch at a nice place called L'Oliva. The waiter was the worst jerk ever, but the cheese plate and the paella were awesome. In between courses, I went to the bank (Caixa) across the street to cash a couple AMEX traveller's cheques leftover from my deposit on my apartment in Paris in the summer. Those dang things are so worthless; no one takes them
Went back to the apartment because DH had to return to the conference center for some meetings. Unfortunately, the Spanish doctors he was going to meet with didn't bother showing up! What a waste of time for him. While he was gone though, the kids and I did homework and then, you guessed it, took a nap. :) After DH got back, he and DS went out for a walk and went to the store to get some milk. When they got back, we had cheese, sausage, and pears for dinner.
I had planned a fancy dinner at La Dama for my husband's birthday, which I was looking forward to because they had roasted goat on the menu, but we saw that a master Spanish guitarist was going to be playing at the Basilica Santa Maria del Pi (built in the 1300s), so he decided he wanted to do that instead. The guitarist's name is Alen Garagic, and he played some gorgeous music. It resonated beautifully in the old church. We bought his CD afterwards to enjoy his music again later.
After the concert, we went to a little place called Bready in the same square. I had some cafe con leche while the kids had hot chocolate (again, just melted chocolate--yuck), and the three of them ate a fantastic looking gaufre and crepe. (I was a good girl and didn't eat any good stuff.) But we did sing happy birthday.
DH thought it was a perfect birthday night.
