DH, DD (7 mos) and I took a day trip to The Huntington. It's a lovely place located in San Marino which is nestled next to Pasadena, California.

It's a wonderful place for walking around the different gardens. The Japanese Garden is gorgeous with it's moon bridge, pond, and Shoin style house.

Herbs are a passion of mine, so I always love the Herb Garden which includes plants for the following purposes: teas, medicines, cosmetics, floral arrangements, dyes, and for cooking, etc. I *don't* particularly like the Desert Garden; that is not a favorite theme of mine, especially when it is hot. There are several other gardens, including a Chinese Garden, which is currently under construction.

The art is housed in three buildings, one of which (The Huntington Gallery) was the beautiful home of Mr. and Mrs. Huntington. It was built in the early 1900's and contains British art of the 18th and 19th centuries as well as French art and decorative objects from the same time period. The two most famous pieces here are Blue Boy and Pinkie--not to be missed!

There is a nice place for afternoon tea: The Rose Garden Tea House.

The first Thursday of every month is free admission (but starting 9/6/2007, you must obtain a free ticket ahead of time to get in).
