Where I stayed
After getting some things done at home, we finally left on the long drive up to Northern California. This being Labor Day Weekend, the traffic was bad at times.
On the Grapevine, there was a bad accident, and the traffic had pretty much stopped. So we exited at Castaic and got some gas. We decided to see what there was to see, so we took this road to the left (going North). Turned out we got on Templin Hwy which runs along the 5 Fwy on the hill. It's only a two-lane road, but it took us right around the accident and put us right back on the 5 Fwy.
We stopped in Fresno at the Yosemite Falls Cafe where we had dinner last time. It was a nice break.
We didn't get in to the hotel until 10:45 pm, so we checked in and went to bed.
Day 2: Aug 29, 2008, Fri
DH and I worked out at the hotel's little gym after breakfast. Then we went to my mom and dad's house and visited. Had lunch there. We stayed and relaxed. DH and DS went back to the hotel to swim. DD went with Mom & Dad to the store. We all had dinner together.
Then DH and the kids and I went bowling. We haven't done that in a couple years or so. But I guess this is National Bowling Week or something and there was a big ad in the paper, and you could bowl for $1 each game and $1 shoe rental. So we thought...why not? We bowled three games and had a great time.
Day 3: Aug 30, 2008, Sat
Today we ran a bunch of errands and visited with mom and dad some more. Plus we took Dad out to lunch for his birthday. We had a really nice time
Then for dinner we had our traditional Pizza Night, and lots of the family members made it. It was big fun. Afterwards, we went to my niece's house and played Scattergories while the kids played Rock Band. It was good family time.
Day 4: Aug 31, 2008, Sun
Got checked out of the hotel and went over to mom and dad's to say goodbye. Dad gave me some more plants. He has such a green thumb. A lot of our landscaping has come from his garden. They gave us some grape tomatoes from their garden also; the kids just love them.
We saw my nephew and his girlfriend briefly which was nice because I haven't seen him in a long time. Then we went down the street and saw my brother who had just gotten back from vacation in Oregon. It was great seeing him as well even if it was brief.
We got on the road, making stops for lunch, drinks, bathroom breaks along the way. We stopped in Pasadena at Vroman's Bookstore. Then finally made it home. Home sweet home.
