Since I didn't have class today, I got to sleep in to 8:45.

Outside I could hear a militaristic voice over a loud speaker and chants. Was there a revolution going on I needed to know about?

No, actually, it was the school kids doing there military training before school starts. Prior to beginning each level of school (going from primary to secondary, secondary to high school, and high school to college) every student participates in military training. Ada had told me about her experiences with this.

Although I'm glad I never had to do anything like that, it might do some good for a large portion of American students who are unruly and undisciplined. But then again, maybe that's wishful thinking.

I went to the office to return the books I used for teaching, and I got paid (yay!). Bonnie did not receive my text about my flight information. Hmmm. Nor did I ever get a text on WeChat from the the students about the Summer Palace for today. So I have determined my phone is not working any more. Well, that sucks. At least I only have one more day after this.

Scott had told me about a fun, cheap shopping place across from the zoo. So maybe I will go there this afternoon.

I'm going to Skype with my family at noon, and I'm really looking forward to that. :)

Well, we Skyped for almost 1.5 hrs. It was great to see my family and the dog too. Although, she can't quite understand where my voice is coming from. We're going to Skype again tomorrow at the same time, for one last contact before I get on the plane. It's too bad I didn't get the internet worked out earlier. Free Skyping is so much better than the $500 phone bill we got!

So after we finished talking, I took the subway to the zoo. Across from the zoo is a big building with several floors of shopping. It's very similar to Silk Street, except that it's mainly clothes and shoes. I was able to do some bargaining (even though they don't speak English at the "zoo market" like they do at Silk Street). I was able to get 2 pairs of shoes, a shirt/shorts set, t-shirt, and a blouse for less than $30 US. I think I did pretty good!

Now it's time to cool off, have some ramen for dinner, and relax. I should probably start packing. I wonder if I should have bought another small suitcase at the market?
