Where I stayed
Although the room is basic and the traffic noise was annoying, I think we all slept pretty well. We showered and got dressed after our meal and headed out for the day. One good thing about this hotel is that it's walking distance to Belvedere.
The temperature outside was definitely several degrees warmer than the last few. We passed a pretty red church and then came upon the impressive Belvedere. We toured the Upper Belevedere which had some incredible works of art. Some that I really enjoyed were the famous pieces by Klimt, The Kiss and Judith I. Just beautiful. I also liked the Austrian art. I don't know the artists' names, but they were of Tyrolean scenes and like nothing I had seen before.
We had a lot of fun in this one room where you got to yell really loud, and it would trigger this moaning sound and the chandeliers would flicker. It was very cool.
We left our coats in the cloak room there and walked down to the Lower Belvedere, but we decided not to go in. DH thought the tickets we got at the Upper would get us into the Lower...what was he thinking? But we were all museum'd out by then, so we walked back up and shopped at the museum store and got our coats.
From there, we walked around the little Christmas Market just outside the front of the Upper Belvedere. We looked at the crafts (nothing too exciting) and had some good nibbles (candy coated walnuts, two giant apple pretzels, spiced wine--collected another mug).
Then we walked down the street to Karlskirche which is architecturally quite different than most I've seen. We paid to get in and walked around this very beautiful and opulent church; it really was gorgeous. We took the elevator up part way, then walked the stairs the rest of the way up to the very top of the dome. It definitely gave an interesting perspective.
There was a Christmas Market there too, so we browsed along as we walked to the U which was at the other end of the market. We took the U-Bahn two stops back to our hotel. However, we made one stop at a store that sold comic books, manga, pokemon, etc. DS collects pokemon cards and has some from other countries in different languages, so we had to get him some in German!
We were all ready for some tea and relaxation at the hotel after all the walking.
