I visited the Rocky Mountain town of Aspen on a day-trip from Denver with five other family members (DH, MIL, FIL, SS & DD). It was a great day, and we enjoyed our adventure in the cool, mountain air of the small upscale town.
We walked around the quaint streets, stepping into boutiques, touristy sport shops that carried the requisite sweatshirts/t-shirts of a ski area, and ate lunch at a trendy but casual Italian restaurant. The town is very comfortable despite its elegant reputation. There are horse-drawn carriages going down the street and colorful explosions of blooms hanging off of every lampost, as well as refreshing fountains and sculptures here and there. The Silver Queen Gondola was busy taking bikers up the 3,257 foot ride up the mountain so they could ride down like kamikaze pilots on wheels, all the while becoming more and more covered in mud. Just goes to show, it's a major attraction for sports enthusiasts in the summer too.
Towards the end of our day there, we stopped by the inimitable St. Regis. We rested our tired tootsies while having refreshments in the cozy, but sumptuous lobby/lounge. Then it was time to head back to Denver. Some day I would like to see Aspen in all of its Winter glory... More thumbnails ...
