I visited the most popular section of the The Great Wall at Badaling, which is a mile-long restored section. It is located about 50 miles northwest of Beijing. There is a skytram that will take you to the top, and then you can walk down, although it is not all downhill. It is very crowded. There are other, less congested, sections that can be visited.

The Great Wall was built over a period of 2,000 years beginning as early as the 8th century BC. It spans nearly 4,000 miles. It is quite impressive.
