While on a trip to Quebec City, we decided to take a day trip to Montreal. It was about three hours to get there. We were most interested in seeing Old Montreal.

The best thing we saw was the Basilica Notre Dame. We paid for the tour, and it was well worth it. It was not overly long, but gave a really interesting quick history of the city and the cathedral.

The cathedral itself is one of the most beautiful I have seen. I found it fascinating that the stained glass did not depict biblical events, but rather scenes for Montreal's historical past. Some of the paintings were also unique showing native Americans in them.

Another great find was the remains of an old hospital which was run by nuns. I suspect we missed some of the old areas, but we put in a full day of walking around and seeing the sites.

It was a nice day trip to see something different.
