Both my trips to Vail were different from one another. The first time I went (Jan 30-Feb 2, 1999), it was just DH and I staying at the Spa & Lodge at Cordillera. DH was attending a conference there. The hotel is a beautiful, small boutique hotel, very luxurious. Much of our time was spent doing conference stuff (dinners and such). We did get to ski at Beaver Creek which is part of the Vail system.

I took a ski lesson through the Beaver Creek Ski School, and I highly recommend it. I can see why they are considered to be among the very best. The little village at Beaver Creek is also nice, a bit smaller than Vail Village.

The World Ski Championships were going on at the same time at the Vail slopes, so we did not get to ski there. We did get to walk around, eating and shopping, at Vail Village which is a blast.

My second trip (Dec 17-21, 2006) included our two children. We had a wonderful time staying at the Vail Marriott Mountain Resort. Surprisingly, there were few people there. And even fewer people were able to arrive later for Christmas because of the horrible snow storm in Denver a couple days after we arrived.

Even though DD got altitude sickness (the elevation is quite high at Vail), and I had only one so-so ski day (see my travelogue regarding this trip for more on that), the trip was wonderful. The kids loved skiing (Vail Ski School for Kids is fantastic!). Vail is just gorgeous; it was a great way to spend part of our winter break.
