"The Heart and Soul of the City of Spires"

It was April Fool's Day (April 1, 2007) the first time I laid eyes on Prague's Old Town Square. We had just arrived into the country from Berlin by train. After checking into our hotel, we went for a walk to check things out. Let me tell you, we were not at all disappointed.

We walked straight down the "Parisian" street, grabbed a bite to eat, then went on down to the Old Town Square which was at the opposite end of the "Parisian" street from our hotel. The square is just phenomenal. You have "Our Lady of Tyn" Cathedral on one side; it looks like a hangout for Count Dracula rather than a place of worship if you ask me (I LOVED it). St. Nicholas Church, which is quite pretty, on the other side. Then there is the Astronomical Clock on another corner at the Town Hall.

We were there just before Easter, and the square was filled with booths selling hand-painted wooden eggs, hand-painted real eggs, other various Bohemian crafts, food incuding what I called "Czech churros" but they are really trdlo, etc. It was just crazy busy with tourists and locals alike. Apparently they have the booths up twice a year: Easter and Christmas.

This was our stomping ground for four days. We started and ended our Ghost Tour there. We went to a concert to hear the Prague Brass Ensemble play at St. Nicholas Church. We ate trdlo pastries and brats, and I even tried grog there (yes, REAL grog...and it was *horrible*!). We walked through the square on a daily basis, several times a day. It was a wonderous place, and I can't wait to go back.
