I went to The Getty Center with my DH as my birthday getaway. We had been to the original Getty Museum (Getty Villa in Malibu) a few years prior, and I had wanted to go to the new center for some time.
You need to make reservations for parking ahead of time, so we had done that. [Although reservations are no longer required now, but parking is based on availability.] You pay a fee to park, but admission to the museum is free! [Also, in the book she says the parking is $5, but it is $8 per car]. We went up, up, up the hill that overlooks all of Los Angeles. It's a great place to get a panoramic view of the city. We went into the different buildings looking at all the gorgeous art our eyeballs could handle. Honestly, there is so much there, it gets a bit overwhelming after awhile. I am looking forward to going back again though, and seeing what I missed the first time. The author also mentions other important art museums in the area: LACMA (L.A. County Museum of Art, Norton Simon Museum, The Huntington, and the Getty Villa. I have been to all of these, and they are all worth a visit. Another fun museum she mentions is the La Brea Tar Pits--it has real tar pits and ongoing archeological research.
