With every assignment I learn so many new things - about myself, others and the world around me. This is the short list.
1. Alaska has a very attractive female governor, Sarah Palin. On Friday the 44 y.o. governor gave birth to her fifth child a baby girl.
2. In Alaska is is common to have a stuffed bear, mountain sheep, moose, beaver, eagle, etc. in your office waiting area, your store or even in your home.
3. With all of the oil surplus money here in Alaska they are continuing to close mental health facilities and shelters daily.
4
5. The "Break-Up" has nothing to do with Angelina and Brad if it is occurring here in Alaska. It means that spring is around the corner.
6. Moose are very big and are tremendously talented and dangerous with their front legs. They can kick a human or large animal and then stomp them to death in a moment.
7. The Brown bear becomes the Kodiak when he travels south and the grizzley as he heads inland.
8
9. Alaska claims the highest rates of domestic violence, physical and sexual assault in the nation.
10. A "Growler" is not an angry bear but a half gallon refillable jug that you take to the brewing company to get your refill of your choice of the one of the local brews.
As I pack my bags, the snow and dust is beginning to disappear and replaced by greenry and spring flowers. I am headed out as all of the shorebirds - the sandhill cranes! - and migrators are flying in. Whales are also beginning to reappear in the surrounding waters. I also read that Mackey, my hero, has been placed in the number two spot of the Sports Illustrated strongest men list. He follows number one Tiger Woods.
