I've arrived and the weather is spectacular. OOPS. Wrong venue.

This morning we pulled up to Metro right on schedule and I jumped out wheeling my two suitcases. At check in I came up just a little over 50 pounds for both! I know Kay that Bruce could one up me but I still think we have to see what he can do for a 9 weeker.

When I arrived at Minneapolis the weather was going downhill quickly. I made my way directly to gate C9 where NWA was soon to depart for Anchorage but immediately realized when I looked around me that I needed a baseball cap and some heavy duty moisture lotion. This crowd looked like they had waged and lost some rough battles against the savage elements of the Alaskan environment. I, however, was HOT. A few too many layers and above normal temperatures made for some steamy travel companions. Thanks to my buddy's advice I had scraped the long underwear but I was still practicing regulated controlled breathing just to keep my body temperature below 110. One additional layer might have made the difference between vertical and horizontal. The 78 degree temperatures on the plane didn't help.

I have to say that the ice on my drive way at home was merely basic training. We have not experienced ice of this caliber in Michigan. The warm weather of last week has sculpted some very interesting and dangerous road ways here.

Hope you enjoy the pictures. As you can see they are taken from the plane and the 4WD rental but it was just too spectacular not to share. When I entered the airport I stopped dead in my tracks to take in the panorama of these spectacular mountains. The man behind me was not so enthralled and ran right into me. I guess I should have signaled.

I'm off to find something to eat before I crash.

Hello to the world traveler
Enjoy Alaska weather. How is global warming there? Have they put you up in an igloo hotel? That would be pretty cool.
