We settled into our hotel and went to visit the old shops which were really interesting. The next day we went to a village museum which consisted of reconstructed houses 300 years old. Am sending a picture for little sam of the original ugg boots made of straw.  That night we found a jazzbar that served food. The menu was in English so we chose a rice dish and some " sweet and salty" pork. It was intense chilli. Ian bit into a chilli and then couldnt breathe. He was just making rasping sounds. Really scary five minutes and then he was breathing normally. Not to be recommended!! We think salty meant spicy. There have been several occasions when words have been translated just not quite right.Anyway hes fine now. Today we are at Lake Ashni and have been up a cablecar to see mount fuji So beautiful.Apparently it is not visible very often so we were very lucky.  tomorrow evening we head out to the airport ,ready for our flight to Singapore early on wednesday. We are eight hours ahead of GMT time. Its been great hearing from you so please keep the comments coming. Also please tell mutual friends to check their spam mail as not everyone has received notification of  my travelpod.

Too much excitement!
This blog is such a good idea - quite disappointed if I turn on the computer and the next installment hasn't arrived. Japan sounds fascinating but sure the incident with the chilli was excitement you could have done without! No worries though Kirsten, we all know how good you are in a medical crisis! Can't wait to hear all about Singapore. Keep having fun love M & Jxx

You were in the spam. Was on the verge of phoning sam to see where you were!! Great photos and loving reading your travel log. How is it Mrs H that you still manage to get the goss before me even when you are on the other side of the world ! Opportunity there for you on your return? Toilets sound top drawer!! especially useful if you are going to continue chomping on chillies Ian. As our social organiser is away we have taken it upon ourselves to book some theatre visits - you would be proud of us Kirsten Term's kicked off well so far - very busy so thats great. Keep thenews coming and have best of times. Take care and lots of love xxxxx

Great pictures
Nice mountain, but more pictures of toilets and trains please! I worry about the clean nozzle setting; may not be advisable!
It looks amazing and something that you will remember forever. Unfortunately not quite that level of culture around Melbourne, but we do have inexpensive wine waiting for you and a very friendly dog with a new hip.
I won't comment on my wife's derogatory blog comment on your first toilet and the wet room; just sort out your punctuation.
Keep them coming. I am getting more detail from colleagues who have Japanese spouses and a few who have lived over there for a few years.
Looking forward to seeing you soon. Hope Ian is ready for some Snapper fishing.
