It was a cool overcast day and a bit late to book the Rio de Prata tour so we decided with some fellow guests (Andy who we met in Campo Grande and Dirk and Martin) to hire bikes and ride to the municipal river. We arrived there and it was quiet and a lovely spot. Much to my delight to blue and yellow macaws flew into a tree. Turned out that they feed them and another red and green pair. Even semi-wild they were lovely to see and it was great when they swooped overhead. We hired snorkels and masks and stayed in the freexing water as long as we could. Later the weather cleared up so we lazed in the sunshine and watched toucans and then cycled home in the setting sun.
The others got a bit ahead when we stopped to take photos so we could not get their attention when we found a whole lot of people watching something in a field. Wolverine was so excited that he flung his bike and lept the fence in one movement. I was so dozy that I could not understand the excitement over a pair of toucans.... only when I saw the shaggy beast did I realise thaht it was a giant anteater!! The other people left and we had her and her baby (on her back) to ourselves. We watched her gracefully dig holes and stick her snout in and move slowly around the field.
When we got back to the road Andy was heading back. We flailed our arms madly to get him to cycle faster, he obvioulsy thought we were mad and refused to cycle faster... Kinsgley cycled off to fetch Martin and Dirk. After the anteater and baby disappeared we watched the sunset with toucans flying past. Mission accomplished for Wolverine!!
