Yes we have wifi but we have had such a great 3 days that there simply has been no time for blogging.
We had decided that the last couple of days would be spent just relaxing with no set itinerary and it turned out fabulous. THe one thing we wanted to do was see the night market as well as the famous Rusty's market that I have seen on the food network. Jonas and I both love cooking so this market was a must.
We had lazy breakfasts and sat by pool and on the rocks listening to the ocean, went for walks on the beach, tracked kangaroo foot prints and crocodile prints and collected shells. THe weather has been absolutely fantastic in Cairns, sunny and hot. I think I mentioned that we got Fiona and Matt hooked on geocachaing as well and there were so many around cairns. We headed in towards town to hit the night market that started at 4.30. (this was around 2ish) and we stopped to track a treasure , it took us to the botanical gardens which was beautiful. The scent of that place was wonderful and the colors so bright and I love the curtain of roots on the fig trees, they are so beautiful. you can hide inside the root formations.! once we found the cache we saw there was another one not to far and it led us to a beautiful look out point from where people paraglide. Another one brought us all the way to the top of a mountain overlooking all of cairns and the harbor it took about 1.5 hours to climb up there and it was hot... we almost didn't make it but..and it was worth the climb. Mikael found the treasure on top and then we found a much easier route down the mountain, the only problem was that we came down on the wrong side of the mountain and we had to hike all the way around. needless to say we were beat by the time we got to the car.
We reached the night market around 7.30 or so and it was ok. We were all spoiled by the markets in Asia so after all the hype we had read about this market we were a little disappointed, but hey it was a great night out. souvenir booths, Ugg's, Kangaroo furs. Then best part was the food court with international cuisine, and we were all starving. Cairns is a happening place at night with lots of cafe's and restaurants and we enjoyed our night.
THe next day we headed to Rex's for breakfast, it is a local "dive" on the side of the road but apparently has the best breakfast, and we chowed down. We visited Rusty's market and it was pretty cook, it is a huge fruit and vegetable market filled with local produce. (as well as the occasional flea market booth. It was packed full of locals and it smelled amazing from fresh flowers and herbs. we picked up some fresh foods and steak and we had ourselves a wonderful goodbye bbq. Maija Mikael and Amy had a show that they had practiced and it was hilarious. It has been such a wonderful week and we could not have asked for anything more. The weather , the company , the house , the food it;s all been amazing.
The Hall's left early this morning and headed back to Canada via Los Angels and we headed to the airport around 11.30 and caught our flight to Sydney. We were sad to go as we truly loved cairns and the company. I would love to come back there and even to the same vacation rental it was so relaxing. I would love to bring my mom here and spend some time just sitting with her listening to the ocean. I had some time to sit on the rocks by the ocean by myself this morning and it made me think of all the women out there and all the wonderful qualities in my friends. I am so blessed to know so many strong women. Women who do for others before them selves everyday, women who always put their family and friends before themselves, women who have suffered such loss and yet it has only made them stronger, survivors and hero's. Women who live with illness or the illness of a loved one, business women, home makers and leaders. You all broke the mould, and I am so incredibly impressed by all this strength and love. I do miss you guys and I draw my strength from you. The old cliche of " what doesn't kill me makes me stronger" is a bible for many of you, some of you have suffered so and yet you have turned it around and formed charities, committees, you lobby again injustice and stand up for the weak and for our angles up in heaven. Bless you.
I was really nice to have that short time by my self and just enjoy the ocean.
We reached Sydney and all our bags arrived promptly and took a cab to our hotel Intercontinental by the Harbor (by the way not impressed by this hotel and not sure what all the hype is?) Sure the views are beautiful and the Harbour is lovely, but that's Sydney not the hotel. Room are probably the worst ones we have had on this trip (they are ok but we have stayed at some really nice places) Anyhow, we strolled down by the waterfront and it is lovely. The rocks area is amazing with all the old buildings and cobble stones and cafe's. We found a great bistro and had dinner and it was awesome. It was an italian restaurant with red and white table cloths, amazing red house wine and it was packed with locals. We continued our walk and ended up walking over the Bridge it gave us wonderful views of the Opera house at night and the Sydney Harbor. ( we checked quickly if there was a treasure on the bridge and sure enough we found another geo cache right there) then we followed the waterfront (and found yet another) had some gelatto, it was delicious! I am totally looking forward to exploring Sydney tomorrow from what we have seen so far it's a beautiful city.
Goodnight all and have a wonderful week.
