haha. yes, some good pictures to come
Sorry - will update all entries in the next 2 days - had no internet - at airport now..

The scenery today was some of the best I've seen in Southeast Asia. Bang Tao Bay, where we are staying, on the western coast of Phuket, is about a mile north of Patong Beach - the area dramatically hit by the tsunami. They have done an amazing job in less than a year recovering from the tragedy, with almost no visible signs left in our area. (A few of the restaurants that were situated directly on the beach outside of our resort are still under construction being restored.)

We were picked up bright and early and driven across to the Eastern shore of the island to a large marina - similar to something you would see in a wealthy area in the states, with rows of gorgeous yachts, and boarded our 25 person speedboat Amazing Blue Waters
Amazing Blue Waters
. Our goal was to reach the Phi Phi islands, about 2 hours southeast of Phucket. Along the way we stopped at various smaller islands for snorkeling, beach time, caves, and blue lagoons. One of which some may be familiar with, Mayo Bay, where they filmed the movie The Beach with Leonardo DiCaprio. It really is as beautiful as they depict in the movie! Snorkeling was great, Debbie's first time. The fish were abundant and full of color...pink, blue's, green, purple, orange, striped, spotted you name it...the coral was mostly monotone other than the a few electric blue and purple ones, but came in all different shapes and sizes. Not a bad excuse to stay in the 80 degree, crystal clear water for extended periods of time!

Now the Phi Phi Islands. I can't even begin to do them justice. Imagine the perfect island surroundings in your mind. Powder white sand that extends as far as you can see, sparkling clear warm water, brilliant blue sky, lime stone moss covered islands out in the distance, and beach that you can wade out almost a half of a mile during low tide. Add the hot sun and the palms trees swaying in the breeze along the coast - and I thought I had found my perfect destination. The part I don't understand, it was empty! I can't imagine why a place like this is not covered with tourists...but I hope it stays that way. Add the Italian wading around in his boxer brief bathing suit, and there was much to look at. :)
