So I hopped in a car with a local Croat and headed to Bosnia. Our first stop was Medugorje. This is the second most pilgramiged place in the world. In 1991 two girls where hiking the mountain when they say the Virgin Mary spoke to them. People have been coming and claiming ever since. It was a brief stop on the way to Mostar. A city still trying to rebuild from the war. Not only did this city deal with the countries war, but it was fighting within the city. One side of the river is Christian and the other Muslim. Today they co-exist (still mainly keeping to themselves on each side) peacefully, but extremists still have tension with each other. I don't have much to say. I tried to get lost in the small city, spending most of my time on the Muslim side (this was safer for me than my Croat companion - he stayed on the main roads and on the Christian side). It was sad to see how much destruction was still around. It was hard not to feel the effects when you can see personal homes, apartments, small shops being used, lived in, worked in with the outsides still riddled with bullet holes. And these were the lucky ones. The pictures say enough.

Hi Kimberly,

Pictures are great and everything.

But I just want to emphasize that this country is called Bosnia and HERCEGOVINA. And these little cities like Medjugorje and Mostar are in Hercegovina -NOT Bosnia.

Do not get me wrong, but a lot of people do not know the difference.

(like you mentioned, it was war few years ago) -well, in Bosnia are mostly muslim... show all
