Where I stayed
Kalbarri Anchorage Caravan Park
We headed off first to the two local viewing points of Red Bluff and Eagle Gorge for some dramatic views of the rugged coastline.
We then took Basil for his first bit of off-road driving. My nerves, spine and excess policy amount got the better of my otherwise exemplary driving here and it took over and hour to drive 28 kilometres, all of which felt like it was being conducted on a spin cycle. We finally reached 'The Loop' and met up with some Germans we'd met in Cervantes. It turns out if you drive 60 km/h you "glide" over the track. Executed this on the return journey which took 30 minutes and didn't turn the milk into cheese.
'The Loop' was quite incredible. An 8km circular walk along the top of an awe-inspiring gorge and river bank. We passed 'Nature's Window', a rock carved out to provide beautiful views of the river winding through the rock formations below us.
Drove to the 'Z-Bend' for another incredible view of the park. Kalbarri National Park was on a scale we'd never witnessed before. A vast expanse of continuously stunning nature and scenery.
The following day en-route to Denham we stopped off at two more look-out points and as a finale to our trip into Kalbarri witnessed an eagle in hot pursuit of a kangaroo and its' joey!
