We left Luoyang in a bus as a serious snow storm seem to gather pace...it was not long until we were in a blizzard! Road conditions were appalling as snow drifts formed and roads were gradually closed. It is the sort of weather that would dominate the headlines for weeks in England and cause the MET Office to have chronic seizures - but for the Chinese they just got on with it! If in doubt get some karaoke songs blaring out on the bus and shout a bit louder...the three hour journey eventually took six and a half!!

Having spent a quiet morning emailing and getting the blog up to speed we are looking forward to the famous Kaifeng night market this evening before heading off on the overnight train to Nanjing tomorrow.

Hope you are enjoying your arm/office chair travels...

The Kaifeng night market was a lively, pungent scene with some gut-wrenching odours and bizarre meat items on sale!?! Having decided to pass on duck blood soup, we (Rob in particular) fell in love with jianbing - pancakes filled with onions, herbs, egg, chilli, some sort of brown paste applied with a paint brush (ideas on a postcard!?!) and then a handful of crackers crushed in for texture. They are absolutely delicious.

We also ate in restaurant when the food was served on a sizzling hotplate, but we must admit we think that our peppered steaks may still have had a pulse when they arrived...luckily we are still here to tell the tale!
