Flew from Beijing to Xi'an very early Wednesday morning. I tried, quite unsuccessfully, to take a penknife through Chinese customs and then landed myself with a new Swiss Army Knife = result!

We need to keep this short as we are eager to enjoy a couple of Tsingtao beers before Happy (2) Hours ends!?!?

Terracotta Army - quite unbelievable! The main pit is like standing at Paddington station some 230 metres long with over 6,000 warriors standing before you. Each figure is individual in facial expression, clothing etc which creates a formidable sight. Hopefully the taster in London has inspired you to see the real thing...

That night we ended up in a Chinese night club. The experience is almost beyond words - effectively it is like a cheap variety show with people sitting surrounded by a raised platform on which cringe-worthy singers and dancers blare out a terrible mixture of both Chinese and English pop songs!?!? However, the Chinese absolutely love it - one chap in particular of about 50 was entertainment in himself as he tried to fix glow sticks between his nostrils and into his ears!?!? Bizarre...

The actual ancient walled city of Xian is quite a picture, especially at night, with the central focus of the Drum and Bell Towers, surrounded by the hussle and bussle of the market stalls in the Muslim Quarter. They certainly make the effort to use every last sinew of any animal - it makes for some quite funky ordours!?!
