The first day of our trip has not gone as well as could have been expected. We got to Heathrow as planned, 2 hours 15 minutes early. After that things have gone very wrong indeed.
Firstly we lost Kim's passport (or more correctly Kim lost her passport). Very cool calm and collected about the whole thing. Passport found, trip restarted, fear of never leaving the Uk abates. Tally Ho! Destination Istanbul/ Constantinople. After 15 minutes sitting on tarmac, plane loses one passenger. One hour late plane leaves Heathrow. One hour later, captain makes very calm announcement in German, stewardesses begin fiddling with emergency exits. Kim not so calm. Finally makes announcement in English. We are diverting to Nuremberg for emergency landing. 7 1/2 minutes later (having been cruising at 35,000 feet) plane taxis into position surrounded by coterie of fire engines. Kim begins fussing in seat pocket, looking for smints and hand cream, just 7 minutes after tears and declarations of love.
Annoyed boyfriend, with major claw marks in arm, mutters not too quietly, 'get the f*** off the plane. NOW." Leave plane minus smints and hand cream lives intact to then be transferred onto buses, and left sitting 20 yards from the plane for 20 minutes while 20 fireman with breathing apparatus run all over the plane, while emergency helicopter buzzes overhead. Fully expecting the bloody thing to blow up on the tarmac. Bused from Nuremberg to Munich for a night in an airport hotel, agenda already fallen by the wayside. So in summary, first flight over. I lost passport, one emergency landing, one lost packet of smints and 1 lost tube of highly prized hand cream. 2 1/2 hour bus ride. Still 800km from intended destination. Trip going as expected.
Now to see if two rather shaken up plane travellers can get on the plane to Istanbul - or will we only be managing 300 miles of our 40,000 mile trip and taking the train back to the UK tails firmly clamped between legs? Will only email in bulk when exciting things happen. Keep looking for further adventures. If you don't want to be informed please email, and we won't send you unsolicited emails. More thumbnails ...
