Here we are back in Saskatoon with just our the memories of our trip to remind us that we were away this past four months. The time passed quickly, though it seems like we've been away quite a long time, too. It was strange to arrive home and the grass is green and the trees are leafing out. (Generally, we take a winter holiday and come back to the snow and cold.) It was really nice to be met at the Saskatoon airport by Martin's sister, Heather, and his mother and especially since it was 12:30 am! Every one of our neighbours, too, made a special effort to welcome us home.

Eight countries and many thousands of miles later, we're reflecting on our travels. People ask us what was the highlight and, although we enjoyed all of it, we have to say that Western Australia really struck a chord for both us - perhaps because in many ways it seemed like home! Visiting with friends (and family) in Singapore, Australia and New Zealand was particularly special, but also was experiencing the cultures of countries like Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Fiji. My grandmother, who travelled widely and was a teacher, told me that "travelling was the best education you could ever receive" - and she was right. We have learned so much from this trip, not just about the places we've travelled to, but about ourselves - about patience, empathy, understanding - and about other people. No matter where you go, you'll meet wonderful people who will go out of their ways to help you, even if they have the same beliefs or speak the same language. That's the real beauty of travel: the people you meet, whether they're fellow travellers or local men, women and children.

Anyone who has travelled and loved it, knows that travel is addictive - the more you experience, the more you want to experience more! Martin and I will be departing for Europe September 12 and plan to travel to the Netherlands, Germany, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Egypt and Morocco. Of course, I'm planning on another travelogue, so hope you'll join us on our journey there . . . .
