The first night we went on a pubcrawl around Berlin, 12 euros got us free beer for an hr and free vodka shots inbetween bars, great for us kiwis on a budget. Had a great time, met heaps of people but had to leave early as the last train back to Potsdam left at 0045, probably a good thing in the end. Next day we all caught train into town and went to the Holocaust Memorial and spent an hr looking through the museum, then walked to checkpoint charlie and caught the tube to the longest surviving part of the Berlin wall which has been covered with amazing graffiti art. Back to campsite for dinner and a quiet night.
Left early in the morning and parked by Potsdam train station, caught train to town and walked to the start of the free bike tour, Berlin is fantastic as all walking and bike tours are free!! We decided on the bike tour as had had enough walking around. Was a good decision as our very enthusiastic guide was full of extensive history of Berlin and took us to all the famous sights....Brandenburg gate (once seperated East and West Berlin), Hitlers Bunker, Checkpoint Charlie, Reichstag (parliament) and lots of other signifcant museums and memorials. Had lunch at a traditional German restaurant, tried the Currywurst which is seasoned sausage with curry sauce and fries, very good!! Still on the hunt for a good snitznel though.
Have not had much luck with the weather since we have been in Berlin, it has been cold, early 20's but when used to 30's its freezing.... and blowing a gale. Since the weather was 'pants' as Hayden calls it, we made a decision to drive out of Berlin and head closer to the border of Poland to camp for the night. Cy and Ants came with us, the rest of them went down to do Czech.
