Yesterday, we had an 8 hour bus ride from David, during which we did pass one single banana plantation.  That´s unusual -- most of our bus rides go past one banana plantation after another, and occasionally pass orchards of other types, too.

Our original plan had been to stop for a day or two in Boquete (a town up in the higher elevation forests), but that didn´t work out.  Unlike the description in the guidebook, we found Boquete to be only somewhat pretty, unexciting and overpriced, and decided instead to head down to our next, prefered destination -- Panama City.

On first impression, I think I like this city.  It´s huge -- 20 km from end to end, and it seems that the things we want to see are actually spread out over that whole space.  But it should be interesting.  Panama City has also confirmed one thing we´ve found in this country so far -- the people are unusually nice, and helpful.  There have been a surprising number of people who have gone out of their way to be helpful, and then said ´goodbye´ or ´have a nice trip´ when they´re done (as opposed to asking for money, trying to sell you something, or looking for a way to scam you, as we´ve encountered so many other places).
