The surprising part, at least for me, was that I really enjoyed Monterrey. The city itself is interesting, and we explored several free museums and an interesting park. We also went for a nice long walk along a canal (not clear if this was a natural canal made pretty or a man-made canal). The entire length had been made into a park, where they hold concerts, yoga, have boatrides, whatever. There are also countless water fountians of different shapes and sizes along the way. It ended in a large park dedicated to the steel industry
Heading back to the bus stop, and thinking we perhaps should have booked an earlier bus out of town, we started poking around looking for a resturant for dinner. Oddly enough, all the places had signs up for a Monterry-Chicago Fire soccer game. As it would turn out, the two teams were playing in the finals of some minor tournament. The game was in Chicago, but there were no shortage of viewing options in Monterrey, and we settled in to watch amongst a crowd that cheered at all the wrong times :) In a very close game, Monterrey won in a shoot out.
So that was Monterrey. And then we got back on a bus.
