John and I successfully packed all of our belongings into a U-Haul truck, and moved it to Ferrysburg, Michigan.  Our trip has officially begun, and we're on the road.

For the first real day of our trip, John and I headed up to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park.  We spent the afternoon climbing on sand, including my favorite -- the bluff.  This is a 450 foot dune that goes almost straight down into Lake Michigan, and makes for quite a challenging climb back up.  We arrived at Uncle John and Aunt Candy's that evening, for a quick evening of sailing, kayaking, and seeing pictures of their trip last week to visit my brother

Uncle John and Sean loaded up three canoes on the top of the car, and we set off with my Aunt Linda and Laura to paddle down the Manistee River for a few hours.  It was a beautiful trip -- the rain held out, the river was pretty, and nobody tipped.  Thursday evening lead to s'mores and a campfire at Linda's cottage out on the grand Lake Meauwataka.

After a leisurely morning on Lake Meauwataka, which included a kayak across the lake and swimming out to the raft, we're now in Laingsburg, getting ready to depart for an all-night drive out to Colorado to see my brother, his girlfriend, and their new house.

Overall, we had a great time up north -- thanks to John, Candy, Sean, Linda and Laura for being great hosts!!!
