Where I stayed
Well the trip is winding down. Yesterday we tried to eat breakfast in a little diner in Mt. Airy but it was closed so we went thru a McDonald's drive-thru and headed on out. We continued on the Blue Ridge Parkway to Blowing Rock where we stopped for a late lunch and a quick walk around town. It started to rain and get cold so we opted not to continue the Blue Ridge Parkway down to Asheville. Rather, we decided to head over to Johnson City, TN since we were only 60 miles away. My good friend from high school lives there, Laura McGowan. So we headed that way and met them at their restaurant, Sushi Blues, for dinner last night. Great place...great sushi...and wonderful to see old friends and catch up. Also, great to see the McGowan girls, Katherine and Olivia before they are in college already! It's been too, too long. My how they've grown! Katherine is a bonafide teenager...wow, all grown up and Olivia, is about to surpass me in height at the age of 10! Not that that's saying much since I'm only 5' 1" but still. It was just a matter of time since their Dad, John, is about 6' 5".
Today we went to Laura's parents house for a late brunch (Larry and Winnie Ledford). We had yummy biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon and sliced tomatoes. Gotta love that southern breakfast! I haven't seen them in about 8 or 9 years so it was nice to catch up with them. They had a very "dog friendly" house with access to a fenced in backyard, so Dooz enjoyed it immensely. He's had more freedom today at their house than he's had in about a week and a half. Yes, for those of you keeping up with the movements, he had not one but two, yes, two in the privacy of the Ledfords backyard! Yippee! He's clean for a good while now!
We're back at the hotel chilling for a bit and then we're going to head out to a park area nearby with the McGowans to visit a bit more.
We're heading out tomorrow to head back towards Atlanta with a stop at the Cherokee Harrah's casino in honor of Jeff's Dad, Fred. Fred used to live in Asheville for about 6 years for work and spent just about every weekend at the casino. So we felt as though we needed to pay the casino homage in his honor. We'll stop and drop a coin or two in the slots on his behalf since we know he misses the place dearly!
Well...that's it for now. More later with some pictures of the McGowans when we meet up for the park trip later today!
