This past working week has been an absolute nightmare for me, I'm not used to working the solid 20 hours let alone the extra 10 hours I added on this week (and possibly next week,) due to feeling bad for asking for the week off when my family come (!!!) The conversations have been great actually, "working on my year abroad research project"/talking to my friends inbetween conversations and looking forward to my favourite meal at lunch- una gordita de papas con chorizo y una quesadilla de tinga de pollo por favor :D My boss really appreciated it though and is happily giving me the week to spend with my family for my birthday! One week to go, SO exciting!!! Counting down the days until the all- inclusive hotel... 24 hour food/drink YES! Kidding, I can't wait to see my crazy little family! It will have been almost 6 months since I last saw them, so yes, it is very exciting and I can't wait to show them around this beautiful place!
The rest of the last 2 weeks has involved a couple of trips to the cinema to see, Life of Pi, Django, yesterday Hansel & Gretal and today, possibly, Mamá. It is just so cheap here and I love going to the cinema! I also now choose to eat Nachos with the cheese dip rather than Popcorn... what has Mexico done to me?! I highlyyyyy recommend Django, if you can handle a bit of blood, even if it is just for the soundtrack or Jamie Foxx... they were both incredible and I really enjoyed the film, especially in VIP ;)
This week also saw the first visit to the popular antro (club) Dady O's, thanks to cortesias, with the new people from Bahia Azul, which was gooood fun and the music was definitely the best out of all the other clubs which tend to have the same playlists.
Of course the beautiful beach is still being visited regularly. The weather recently has been a bit tropical, in that you never really know what to expect, one day it is boiling hot and I can't last one hour on the beach, and the next it is raining. Crazy.
A couple of us girls (Mexicans, Spanish and one from Panama!) from Bahia Azul and Tote made a day trip to Isla Mujeres, but I had to get a ferry early in order to go to my basketball match. The day was beautiful, the sun was shining and it was SO hot, every time the sun went behind a cloud the difference was crazy! The sea in Isla Mujeres is absolutely incredible, so still and the colour just takes your breath away. It really is paradise, and it was a great day chilling on the soft, white sand and in the amazing waters.
After the incredible team performance on Sunday, I went to watch Los Pioneros, the professional basketball team of Quintana Roo, in the play off finals. I have been to a couple of NBA games in London, and was lucky enough to go to both male and female Olympic finals... but honestly, nothing compares to the atmosphere provided by the Mexicans. The game was tense at 77-77 with 1 minute to go, but after some steals and good plays, Los Pioneros finished on top and oh my god, it was incredible. I had goose-bumps and the stadium isn't even a touch on the O2 in London, but the noise was deafening, it was unbelievable! Everyone chanting, everyone screaming, everyone going crazy! So good! I also ate the "salchiiiichas, papaaaaas, salchiiiiichas, papaaaas" for the first time, as well as 3 "kibi, kibiiiiiiis, kibi, kibiiiis" <- trying to describe how the sellers walk around selling them... haha. Perfect day!
Other events include another trip from Floyd back to Cancun :D We all hit our favourite friday night antro, Sweet, with the tastiest Stawberry Daquiris. It was the 1st of February and this marks the start of my birthday month, and in Cancun, this means free entry :D YES!
To destress, 6 of us went to the cinema and saw Hansel & Gretal, and then I ate gorditas with Edith and Tec before the next round of Mexican basketball bitches vs Kimberly Fenton, the pinche turista.
Today is Sunday and I have plans to chill and maybe go to the cinema to see Mamá before 2 more games today! I have been asked to play for another team who are in the 1st league after my match with the UC Gators :) That is 4 leagues now! Sadly I'm going to miss the Sunday Superbowl madness, but I live for basketball these days... who would've thought it, the benchwarmer from Chiltern Pumas!
Random thing, every ATM in Mexico has at least 10 people queueing up to use it at all times of the day, it is just the weirdest thing.
One more week, and my next blog will see the arrival of my better half, my twin and my amazing parents :)
Until next time, lots of love, Kim x
