When we finally and with regret decided to leave the wonderful Mt Abu it was for Udaipur about 180km north we headed. Udaipur is the town that the James Bond movie Octopussy starring Roger Moore was filmed but more about that later !!
The mountain road down from Mt Abu was so much fun to descend, with its hairpin bends and narrow little straights it was like an Alpine descent and buses etc coming up on the wrong side of the narrow roads made it even more fun. But the views were what really made it all the more awesome and eventually we were back on flat ground again. This lasted about 25km and then the real tough stuff started, the road to Udaipur is being changed to dual carraigeway so now the whole way there is an unpaved dirt track that goes up and down through some really hilly terrain and we had one or two mishaps along the way. Most notable was one of Jimmys bags falling off his bike and we didnt notice for about 3/4km A Leaving Mt Abu
A Leaving Mt Abu
. We were told by some guys working on the roads that a JCB driver had the bag but when we asked him he denied it first, but after some "gentle persuassion" he changed his mind and returned the bag !! we got lucky because the documents for Jimmys  bike were in the bag !!!
Finally we arrived in Udaipur and met 2 English people who we had met in Abu and they hardly recognised us as we were so covered in dust from our ride. After showering we went for dinner with the English couple Anthony and Jenny and sat overlooking the lake and had chicken for first time in over 2 weeks !! Still cant wait to get my hands on a big juicy steak when I get back to Europe but dont get me wrong the vegatarian food is really good just I am a carnivore by birth I guess !!
Every hotel/restaurant in town show Octopussy every day so theres really no getting away from it and on our next day there we sat through about half of it and even though it was the first James Bond movie I had ever seen I had forgotton how cheesy it was, but it was good looking at the Lake palace on tv while it was in full view outside the restaurant. Unfortunately my camera malfunctioned in Udaipur so the pics are sparse but it is a nice enough town and even though we only spent one full day here it was worth the trip !!
