I got a flight for 30 euros to Delhi and the contrast between Mumbai and Delhi was apparent almost immediately !!! While Mumbai was hot, sticky and dirty I got relatively little hassle there but in Delhi from the first minute I arrived people attempted all sorts of cons on me, and its way filthier and has far more blatent poverty than Mumbai.
The worst thing about Delhi are the scams ..... everybody is a tourist agent, and constantly stop you on the street asking you into their shop to sell you the perfect trip to the best place on earth ..... Rajahstan. While I am not saying they are wrong as I have yet to visit but telling you theres no trains available and only way to travel is by car and then charging outragous amounts for a guy in an opel corsa (luxury car) to take you.
There are lots of good things about Delhi if you can look past the scams, dirt and poverty, some great restaraunts and amazing tourist sites such as The Red fort, Akbars tomb and the Lotus temple
I was terrified at what Roseannes reaction might be to all of this as she is (like I was )a very in-experienced traveller and quite sensitive to things like homeless children and badly deformed/crippled people coming begging off you.
After staying in pretty average hotel for 3 nights I found a reasonable hotel for Roseannes stay (it even had a bath ). She arrived on Monday morning and as I expected she was totally overcome by it all. The scamming, begging, poverty, overcrowded streets and pollution was too much and she decided enough was enough and she went home on Thursday morning. I have to add though that despite this we spent 3 fantastic days together and went to the famous Taj Mahal on Tuesday but I will describe that in the Agra section.

Akbars tomb
. Also one of the most peaceful tranquil places in all of the rush here is the Raj Ghat..... spot where Mahatma Ghandi and the other members of the Ghandi political family were cremated after their assasinations .I was terrified at what Roseannes reaction might be to all of this as she is (like I was )a very in-experienced traveller and quite sensitive to things like homeless children and badly deformed/crippled people coming begging off you.
