Waking up this morning, it was cloudy and a cool 14 degrees.  With highs expected in the low 20's, we decided to go for a walk to see our favorite tower.  On the way, we would explore the Champs-Elysees district.

We cut through the Opera quarter, passing the fashion houses along the way until we arrived at Place de la Concorde.  This sqaure was larger than I had imagined...it takes up 20 acres in the middle of Paris!  This sight was once used for beheadings. (In fact, they executed 1100 people in just 2.5 years right here...gruesome.)In the centre of the square stands  an obelisk from the ruins of the Luxor temple in Egypt...it is 3300 years old and weighs more than 220 tonnes!

We then walked towards the Arc de Triomph along the wide sidewalks lined with big chestnut trees!  The area closer to this structure has many cafes and high-end stores.  It gets a little crowded here.

We turned towards the Seine here, and headed into the Challot distirct.  There is a house here used in the Bourne Identity movie that Judith wanted to see.  As I was craving a large salad for lunch, we stopped at a cafe here and had some amazing creations!  Tip:  No self-respecting Parisian has lunch here before 2 PM, so if you wait until then, there is some superb food being made.  If you have a 'big salad' for lunch, you seriously will not need dinner until 8 PM.  They are so filling and creative!  (See pics)

After lunch (and some great wine, of course) we continued toward the Trocadero fountains.  I found this area very touristy and full of scammers and pickpockets.  Be watchful here!  The big draw is the view of the Eiffel Tower.  I believe it has the best view in all of Paris! The fountains were large and impressive, however we could not get too close as they were filming a cooking show??  Oh well, we will see these again on our upcoming evening boat cruise...they will be lit up then.

By now, our feet were sore.  According to google, we had walked 6.5 km already!  We hit the train going home and put on some fresh coffee and opened up the pastries!  Croissants with chocolate for Judy and a lemon tart for me.  I better go before I start to drool on the keyboard here!
