I was in the navy for the past 12 years, but I just quit. I decided to go traveling before deciding what to do next. Destination: South East Asia. I wanted to go to the Philippines but it was cheaper to fly through Bangkok. If I was going to Thailand then I might as well go and check out Laos and Cambodia too. I have been to Thailand twice before, but never to the north. That's where I would start.

I flew out of Victoria at 6am, so had to get up early to be at the airport on time. My dad drove me. Even though the typical winter there is fairly mild, the last couple of weeks have been real bad and we had a lot of snow (for us). Even as we were driving to the airport there was a bit of a snow fall. Fortunately it didn't last long and the roads got better.

I flew over to Seattle from Victoria with Horizon Air. I got there before 7am. I had a long layover as my next flight wasn't leaving until after noon. The Star Alliance Lounge didn't open until after 9am. I flew with Asiana to Inchon (Seoul), Korea and from there to Bangkok.

The flight didn't get in until 00:45am, Monday morning already. We landed 40 minutes late due to strong head winds. Immigration was a breeze, I was through in minutes. It took a while for my bags to arrive; I got them around 01:20. There was a huge line-up for cabs outside. I finally got one and reached my hotel, the Majestic Grande (1450 Baht / night) on Sukhumvit at around 2 am. The fare was 280 Baht ($1CDN = 28Baht) plus 50B airport fee and 45B toll fees. I checked in and hit the bed.
