We left the luxury of our Las Vegas hotel to make our way to Denver, Colorado. On the way we had planned one stop in Ceder City staying with a friend of Stanzi's family, Karsten, and then a stop in a town called Green River where we would spend a night camping.

Ceder City was a nice large town which we almost wish we'd had longer to explore. When we got to Karsten's house we called him to let him know we'd arrived but it turned out he was on vacation in Canada and wasn't expecting us until the following week. Ah. He told us he'd sort us out with some luxury place to stay but in the meantime sent us to dinner at the Ninja japanese restaurant in town.

At the restaurant we were supposed to meet "Raymond" the head honcho, but the restaurant was so busy we just went to get sat at a table. We were sat around a grill that was adjoined to the table, and were with 5 other people in having our orders cooked for us. The chef put on a real show for us, cooking right in front of us. He set fire to oil on the grill sending up flames, he also made a "volcano" out of an onion, flipped his knives around, and threw shrimp into each of our mouths (well, one guy managed to catch it anyway haha). He also grabbed a (fake) plastic soy sauce container, leant towards Stanzi saying he forgot to offer her the sauce and then squeezed it making a hard goo squirt out right at her face hahaha. It was a great dinner and entertaining experience for us - the nicest part of the two days that's for sure.

After the meal we were put in contact with one of Karsten's friends who took us to our luxury room for the night. Turns out in their office building they had put a bed into one of the offices and we could stay there! Very wierd situation, but kinda funny too. Even wierder, the next morning we showered in a house across street which was on the market to be sold and empty. Don't worry, we'd been given the key!

We travelled on to Green River which is a small town in the middle of nowhere in the desert land of Utah. The whole village was pretty much along one road and could be driven through in less than 5 minutes. It was also uncomfortably hot and a train track ran along the campsite leading to the worse night's sleep ever. After continuously waking up through the night I got up at 3.30am and sat in the marginally cooler car and waited for the sun to come up so we could pack up the tent and get the hell out of town! We left by 6.15 and hit the road. We stopped for McD's breakfast 90mins down the road and then ploughed on to Denver. We were tired, dirty, and really not in the best mood but the next 4 hours on Route 70 cheered us up considerably. It was some of the most scenic highway we had travelled by far. It chaged from sparse desert to mountainous terrain, with the River Colorado alongside us for a good portion of it. We also went through some beautiful towns on the way including the Aspen skiing village. It would have been nicer to sleep on the side of the road in any of these places than in Green River!! But hey, nothing we could do about it, and Denver was just around the mountain...
