Bulletproof, waterproof...
Entry 2 of 74 | show all | print this entry |
Went to the travel doctor to have my final jab today - I now cannot die. Well, at least not from yellow fever, typhoid, hepatitis A/B, tetanus or polio. Apparently I can still become critically ill and wish for death, but I won't die. That brings my tally to 6 different jabs, at the unbudgeted price of over $400.
As a show of defiance, I then proceeded to the hiking shop and palmed over a small fortune for backpack and sleeping bag. To be fair, I had always planned to spend that sort of money on the items that really count on a holiday like mine: sleeping bag, backpack, jacket, pants, boots. I'm going back (once my heart pulpitations have subsided) to get a good set of boots and maybe some weatherproof pants and jacket. One set is adequate - just enough to keep me alive.
Also went to the Chinese embassy in hope of getting my tourist visa, but unfortunately found a notice posted on the scary front gate stating they are only open Mon/Wed/Fri 8.30-12.00am. Another job for another day.
Received my car rego reminder - brilliant. If I renew it now then I pay $423 for it to sit in a garage somewhere for a year. Hopefully I can find a cheaper way around it. Another one of those annoying tidy-up issues is my mobile phone - found out today that if I don't keep paying monthly then I will lose my number (which I've had for 10 years and am quite attached to). Will investigate solution for that too.
