Note: We are now cool enough travellers that the places we are going are not even on the travelpod map. We are actually in Pummakale Turkey.

Pummakale Turkey used to be one of the most recognizable sites in Turkey because it is the home of the Travertines. The travertines are naturally occuring pools filled with thermal water in the hills around Pummakale. The calcium oxide in the water leaves white deposits that look like snow or cotton.

Brittany Sarah and Kelly arrived first and spent a day relaxing by the pool of the hotel waiting for Lindsey. There is literally nothing to do in Pummakale except for visiting the travertines. The town consists of a few hotels and a few shady looking restaurants and one bar. It is called "cafe bar, cafe bar bar bar"  according to the spray painted sign on the front. It was right across from our hotel, and we never saw anyone go in.

While we were staying by the pool, Lindsey had just arrived in Marmaris after dropping Jon off at the airport. She stayed with a Turkish masseuse who had a fat cat and an album of photos of his fat cat. He made her drink apple tea all day long and gave her a free massage.

On the day we spent by the pool, two strange things happened. 1) A man carried in his naked newly circumsized son to ask for monetary donations to buy the kid ice cream. We don't know if this is normal practice, or something strange going on. 2) The owner of the hotel, Aydin, showed up with a very cute puppy to give to his daughters. We asked where the dog came from, and it came out that they had stolen the dog from a gas station. The man who owned the dog had a few puppies, and Aydin had just taken one, and when the man complained Aydin just said "You have enough dogs. Why do you need this one?" and then just took off with the puppy. We definitely know this is what happened, because later in our travels we met a couple that had been in the car during the dog-napping incident.

The next day Lindsey was scheduled to arrive in the afternoon. Brittany Kelly and Sarah left her a note at the front desk telling her to come and meet us up at the Travertines.  We had to remove our shoes because it is a UNESCO world heritage site. Above the travertines is the ancient roman spa city of Hierapolis. In the past, visitors have been able to bathe in the travertines and they were thought to cure a host of ailments. Today many of the travertines have dried up and swimming is now restricted.

We climbed around the travertines, and it was definitely cool to see them. The surfaces are chalky and soft and they have made fake pools that you are allowed to swim in. There were lots of paragliders around  and one landed really close to us. His friend was running up towards him, making a huge scene with arm waving and screaming.  He also had one pant leg up and one down and looked a little homeless. We started making fun of him and being like "yeah I think your friend sees you." When he got closer, we realized he was a she, and that she was Lindsey and she had been yelling our names.

We had a glorious reunion and started walking around together. We walked into the Cleopatra's pool area, which is where the springs originate. While walking around we noticed that the Turkish women were doing completely serious and completely ridiculous "sexy poses." They were making pouty faces and posing with props like flowers. We had been looking for our Turkish pose inspiration and we found it at Pummakale. The Turkish sexy pose was born.

That night Kelly and Brittany took off for Istanbul, and Lindsey and Sarah stayed for another night in Pummakale. Sarah wanted to send her 1500 page book she had been reading home with Kelly, so the last two hours before their bus she had to frantically finish the book. No one was allowed to talk to her or talk too loudly around her, but they were allowed to bring her apple tea.

Ten minuted before Brittany and Kelly were getting on their bus, Brittany asked Kelly for the bus tickets she had purchased. Kelly replied "I gave them to you this morning while we were having tea. I put them on your side of the table. That meant that you should take them." Without Kelly telling her to take the tickets, Brittany did not know that Kelly sliding them on to her half of the table meant that she was responsible for them.  They spent the next few minutes frantically searching through their bags. Aydin said that if they did not find the tickets they would have to buy new ones. Kelly went into where they had had tea that morning and found them where she had left them. In her defense, they were on Brittany's side of the table.

That night Sarah and Lindsey saw a belly dancing show at the hotel and smoked a hookah next to Cafe Bar Cafe Bar Bar Bar and headed out the next morning for Selcuk.
