Where I stayed
The flight was 3.5 hours long and my God don't the SouthWest ladies know how to have fun. The safety check was the quickest on record. One lady zipped through it on the microphone, while the other lady struggled to keep up with the demonstrations. My favourite line? "To do up your seatbelt do this, to take it off do that". She then explained that we should not queue for the toilet, but wait in our seat until it is vacant
On arrival at Nashville, the music city title was obvious from the get go. Live bands in the bars, pictures of musicians throughout, and rocking chairs at the baggage claim (yeah...I don't get that one either). We checked in at Hertz and picked up our Mazda CX9 and after prepping myself for 5 minutes, I drove to the hotel (only 15 minutes away). I love that the airports are so close, especially given the nerves of driving on the wrong side!
We arrived at our hotel and checked in before having a shower and getting changed. We headed downstairs to the bar for a couple of amber ales before setting off for a walk. Talk about being in the perfect spot! Everything was within easy walking distance of our hotel. We wandered down "Printing Alley" next to our hotel and found it littered with bars. We continued down to 2nd Avenue and found a whole street of bars. We decided "when in Nashville" to go into the BB King Lounge for dinner and drinks.
We paid the cover charge of $5.00 and were shown to our seats by our friendly waiter who had to shout over the band! The Stacey Mitchard band were superb; consisting of Stacey (singer & lead guitarist), keyboard player, drummer, bass guitarist, sax player and trumpet player. We settled back, ordered some food and enjoyed the ride.
We shared a BBQ sausage and cheese platter, with jalapenos and gherkins...amazing! I then had BBQ ribs, baked beans and coleslaw...by far my best meal! AJ had buttermilk fried chicken served with "a side" of mac and cheese. I'd hate to see a main of mac and cheese...that thing was huge! I polished everything on my plate and washed it down with one...ok two...ok four coronas. We had a brilliant night...if the next couple of weeks in TN, AL & LS are like this...BRING IT ON!
We headed back to the room around 10.00pm feeling a tiny bit jet-lagged as we'd jumped forward 2 hours in time. After reading a few chapters ("Hungers Games" for me and "Hells Angels" for AJ) we nodded of to sleep with the sounds of trains, sirens and bass guitars in the background.
Until tomorrow xxx
