Even so, I found the film to be an interesting window into the time period, and to a sequence of events that could have taken place. The movie made Shakespeare more human to me. It is a little silly to me when I think about it, because of course Shakespeare was a human like us, but all I had ever really experienced from him was the impressive and elegant words of long ago or paintings of a stiff man dressed in fancy clothes from the 1500’s
The movie was also a peek into what it was like to live in Shakespeare’s days. As a woman, I don’t know if I would have liked it much, since women were sometimes basically forced to marry a man they did not love, which is what happened to the woman Shakespeare loved. I also could see their culture in the way the characters dressed and spoke, and the structure of the towns they lived in.
Overall, I am glad that I watched this movie because it gave me a new and humanized perspective of Shakespeare and the world he lived in. I also had always been curious about this movie since I had heard about it, so now I know what it’s about!
