I love science, and my first two years at Bradley completely immersed myself in it. But I have also always loved reading and writing. However, this last year of school was especially challenging for me, and I didn’t have a lot of time to read anything other than science textbooks. As much as I like science, I missed reading and writing! So I am actually looking forward to doing that again this summer.
It’s going to be a busy summer! I am taking a couple of classes, working in a biology research lab at Bradley, volunteering with a physical therapist who works with adorable kids, swimming, and, of course, traveling
The exact order of my traveling destinations is not yet set in stone, but I think I will first be traveling to London as I read The Golem’s Eye, which is the second book in the Bartimaeus Trilogy. Through this book, I will be able to travel once again to the city of London in a time when it is run by magicians. The magicians are able to summon demons to do their will. Usually in stories, the magicians are depicted as the heroes and demons are villainous. But in an interesting twist, the demons can have better morals than the magicians, who instead are too often corrupted by their desire of prestige and power. So, I think the story will follow a young magician and the demon he summoned in the first book.
I also want to travel to an island where science has been applied in a dangerous way as I read Jurassic Park. Then I might travel to early 19th century England through the classic book entitled Pride and Prejudice. Another travel destination could be in the future, shown through The Host, where alien souls are attempting to take over human minds.
I hope it will be an interesting summer for all of us!
