Hola amigos!  Another day in Buenos Aires.  We slept in until 9 o´clock.  It was wonderful.  But much to my disappointment I woke up with a face full of mosquito bites.  Remember I was sleeping in a room, without a door, and Trent,  Molly, Janna and Jason were all in the room.  And I was the ONLY one who got any mosquito bites. And they aren´t just mosquito bites.  They are of course very swollen and nasty looking.  Two on my forehead, one on one cheek, one on the other, one on the side of my face, and then several in many other places.  I must be quite tastey.

We took the Subte (subway) to the plaza de mayo.  This is the main square of the city.  It is also the square that the casa rosada (where the president of mexico lives) is.  This was used in Madonnás famous Evita movie.  After we hung out here, we decided to move on into the San Telmo district and then La Boca.  It was the Sunday morning market in San Telmo.  It was total chaos with tons of different people there.  We found this big square full of booths, and all of the people at the booths selling things were dressed in crazy outfits.  Like warped-halloween type costumes.  Men dressed like women.  Women dressed like angels.  Women with just weird freaky outfits and make'up.  Everyone wants to be a freak so that they do something noteable enough that you want your picture taken with them and give them money.

Oh well.  WE moved on to La Boca, and ended up in a terrible neighborhood.  We ended up being rescued by a very friendly taxi driver who drove us through many of Buenos Aires´ neighborhoods and gave us his experienced commentary as we went.  I must say, people in Buenos Aires are so friendly.  They are never rude, and rarely make you feel stupid.  That is really saying something.

We did another late afternoon nap-hang out in our room and then out for our final night in Buenos Aires.  This required a celebratory meal!  We went to a restaurant called the casa blanca and had wine, lots of red meat, savory bread and dessert.  It was very yummy and very celebratory.

So some various observations on Buenos Aires......it is a beautiful city.  It is very humid (which was doing wonders for my curls...)  But you can tell that the economy is not what it is in many other countries.  The sidewalks are all in disrepair.  We didn´t get to enjoy our leisurely strolls through the city because we have our heads looking down to avoid broken sidewalks and dog poop. Seriously, there is dog poop all over the place here. Our hotel was in the Palermo neighborhood, a nice, trendy neighborhood, but it is also very residential.  And you can constantly smell dog poop which is kind of nasty.  All in all, it was a nice city, definitely worth visiting, but still not one of my favorite foreign cities.

So, tomorrow we have to get up at 3 45 am to catch our flight to Ushuaia.  I am not looking forward to only getting 4 hours of sleep.

Adios!
Krystal

Should have taken me along
Krystal, if you had only taken me along, then you wouldn't have been the only one with mosquito bites! You know they wouldn't have been able to resist me--you got that trait from the Adams Family! Sorry bout that :-)
