An unexpected day in New York City
Entry 1 of 7 | show all | print this entry |
Well much to my surprise, Trent and I had a bonus day in New York City yesterday, instead of enjoying our first day in Buenos Aires. I left work around 11 30 on Thursday so I would have PLENTY of time to get to Chicago. Well it turns out there was no rush. We arrived in plenty of time, and we also were delayed several hours. By the time we took off we were running about 3 hours behind. We landed at JFK about 10 10, exactly the time our BA flight was supposed to leave. They did not hold the plane for us, thus we were stuck in NYC. We were pretty bummed because we were very excited for our adventure to begin. Molly and the Js were on different flights, so all was well with them. To make a long story short, we had numerous customer service debacles with American Airlines, and we ended up wasting $150 for a teeny tiny hotel room in Queens which we didn´t arrive at until 1am. Despite the chaos and disappointment we had adventures getting to our lovely little Queens hotel. We met other people going to ARgentina, road an old school bus to the ´free´hotel that american was providing, road the old school bus again, stood in the freezing cold wind with girls talking about what Bangkok is like, and talked with people with 5 ukrainian children from St. Louis. All from about 11 to 1 on Thursday evening. Aaaah...the adventures of travel.
We did enjoy our day in NYC. Neither of us have ever been there, so what an opportunity! We took the Long Island Railroad into the city Friday morning. It was a beautiful brisk morning. We got off at Penn Station and spent the rest of the day walking our behinds off (those who know Trent know he doesn´t have much to walk off :-) Anyway, we saw A LOT of stuff. My favorite thing of the whole day was central park. The trees were changing color, and it is such an amazingly beautiful place. We saw rockefeller plaza. The Christmas tree had scaffolding all over it while it is being decorated, but there were still a lot of beautiful decorations all over the city.
We walked through NoHo, SoHo, the east village, tribeca, and on and on )(all the place ive read about in people magazine but never have seen). We visited Ground Zero which is a very sobering sight. And we saw the Statue of LIberty from afar. Wall street, etc, etc, etc.
We made it back to the airport for our 10 10 flight, which didnt leave until 11 (if that had happened the night before we wouldnt have missed our flight....). Anyway, we made it on the plane and had a smooooooth flight. I actually slept quite well.
See you tomorrow in Buenos Aires!

Wow! I'm sure it was nerve racking, but I'm happy you got to see some of New York. Did you happen to see a really big Silpada ad? We received an email that there was going to be a huge ad there in Nov. and Dec. Wish I was with you! Don't forget the brazilian wax! Enjoy!

What a gift! Two vacations in one! Too bad the Christmas tree wasn't fully decorated, though :-( Dad and I are anxiously and enviously awaiting your daily blog, wishing we were the ones traveling again.
Love, Mom
