we made it to Florence at noon and checked in to a very clean bright and airy hotel! It is small and overlooks the duomo although we don't have a view. Well we do, but it is a view of roofs, but they are nice roofs. It was super hot when we arrived but we felt we hadn't sweat enough so we braved the hot afternoon sun. So many tourists are here during the day! I know it is just because this is a beautiful famous place, but it can still be slightly overwhelming and annoying. I showed Trent the main sights, and then we did some shopping. Our new friend flavio helped Trent pick out some shirts and helped us figure out his Italian shirt size. We ate more gelato and then came to the hotel for siesta and to catch up on my blog. My readers can be very demanding sometimes!!! I worked for about an hour to get the AC to come on in our room, but it never did. 2 reasons I booked this hotel was AC and wifi. Turns out AC is turned off for the year, and wifi you have to stand in very certain areas of the room for it to work. Big bummer. Otherwise hotel is really nice. The owner is American and I asked her about the AC and she was like 'oh we never use AC in September' like I was a big idiot for wanting it. I explained to her all the mosquito bites from the night before, and she was like....oh we NEVER have problems with Mosquitos. So in two minutes she told me I was stupid and a liar. I can't possibly be overreacting, right? I just hate being dismissed like that and since I was REALLy looking forward to AC and had purposefully booked a hotel with AC it just kind of sucked.

Anyway enough complaining. You don't read a travel blog for the complaints, right?

We saw the main sites, duomo. Baptistery, ponte vecchio, uffizi, cool piazzas etc.

We had a great dinner at a pizzeria. Bruschetta, pizza with tomatoes, basil, and buffalo mozzarella, and a bottle of wine served by our lovely Latvian waitress. We wandered the slightly less touristed streets and enjoyed cool night breezes. And then slept a good nit sleep despite Mosquitos and poor Internet access and woke ip refreshed, slightly sweaty, and ready for another day.

The uffizi is really cool. My fav was all the art on the ceilings of the halls. Very odd and original

It's ok to vent, Krystal...your readers owe you that! You let us enjoy new places we might never get to see. We love it when you are enjoying yourself, and when you hit a snag and figure it out. Enjoy the rest of your trip. And of course, add to your blog! :)

That chick doesn't know you are a mosquito magnet and that right now all the mosquitos in Italy have checked into your room--right? One of my regrets of our Italian trip is that we didn't purchase some leather goods while in Florence. They were such high quality and relatively low price. Ah, well, I guess I'll just have to go back. :-)
