Today we slept half the day :-)  Doesn't make for a very interesting blog entry, does it? Well I am exagerrating a little bit.  We only slept until 10, which if you Trent and I is basically unheard of.  By the time we showered and left the apartment it was 11:30 to12. So we started the day with lunch instead of breakfast. After that we became extremely annoyed by all the cruise traffic in town, so we opted to head to the outskirts where fewer people were. We were headed to this sculpture museum, not because we were dying to see it, but because we wanted a place to wander and explore along the way.  It was supposed to take 25 minutes, but it took us about 2 1/2 hours. And it was a very beautiful walk/hike.  We meandered along the shoreline, enjoying the beautiful scenery and gorgeous weather.  it was kind of hot still, but not too bad, only hot because we were hiking on white marble in the bright sun with only a little bit of shade.  We ran across some vagabonds camping out in a cemetary, saw lots of men and boys in speedos, and an old lady sunbathing topless. We were never quite sure we were going in the right direction to find the museum, but we finally did.  Only to find out the sculptor's most famous work of art is at Grant Park in Chicago!  But the guy is from Split and had built a magnificent house overlooking the Adriatic where he retired and built purposely to display his great works.

We worked our way back to the hotel and hung out for awhile in our room, and then went back out exploring again. The old town is very beautiful.  And while there are still quite a few people out and about tonight, not nearly as many as earlier today.  Along the way on our hike, we spied the Norwegian cruiselines ship that was ferrying people into the city and clogging up the streets. We sat and watched for awhile as they loaded up little boats and zipped into the harbor.

We had a very delicious dinner that consisted of a very nice white fish, don't remember the name, but it is known as the 'queen of the adriatic'.  It was very nice and came with a head and basically all its normal fish parts.  It was a little bit of work getting all the meat without getting bones and we were both speechless for about 25 straight minutes. After dinner we wandered around Split some more, and now we are relaxing.  Tomorrow we are taking a bus to Dubrovnik.  it is about 4 1/2 hours south of Split.  It is supposed to be the most beautiful city in Croatia, so I am very excited.  We are staying right on the beach too!!  So finally we will enjoy the beautiful Adriatic that we have seen so much of over the last 2 days.

More to come

That's funny! People walk sideways in Croatia and McDonald's doesn't look the same over there? Oh, I suppose you didn't mean McD's when you said golden arches, huh? Sounds like a pretty risque place with men in speedos and old ladies sunbathing topless--no wonder you guys picked Croatia for a vacation spot! Glad to hear you are enjoying your trip. We are still experiencing heat, but they are promising cooler weather. I sure hope it comes. Keep up with the blogs--love them! Mom
