We spiced up our usual Saturday night routine with a Star Party at the McDonald Observatory up in the hills outside Fort Davis. Despite some early clouds, we had incredible views through the domed telescopes of Saturn. It really looks just like what it looks like in all those pictures you've always seen with the rings and the moons and the faint yellow glow. Then there were some whirlpool galaxies, exploding nebula and sombero shaped solar systems.

The party ended with a constellation parade at the outdoor amphitheatre where our guide pointed out the constellations visible in the night sky- we saw half a dozen zodiac signs, all the usual suspects like my friend the Big Dipper, and I becae acquainted with Spica and Arcturus.

Also big important discovery: Ben is a closet astronomy expert. Actually I already knew but he did bedazzle me with star gazing skills. Guess all that nighttime ship navigation pays off when it comes to romancing the ladies.

Also, given this talent, he should never be lost at night. More on that later...
