Add the bats to the list of things global warming has ruined.
The nightly emergence of the bats which roost under the Congress Street bridge is supposed to be one of the most incredible sights. I know. I've watched videos on YouTube. But when we sat on the bridge for 90 minutes on Thursday night, the most we saw was the bat boat on the TownLake looking for the bats and a handful of single bats which would dart back and forth from one side of the river bank to the other, but despite the cover of darkness and 90 minutes of waiting with baited breath. Nobody ever showed up. Apparently the drought last year meant there were far fewer insects leaving the bats weak and open to predation. So I guess they’ve adjusted their schedules this year and are coming out in smaller groups under the cover of darkness.
