I left the bounty known as White Pigeon and headed towards South Bend, IN.

This was a turning point.  On one hand I had hightailing it to Chicago on my mind.  Devo was playing The Vic and I was going.  I thought I'd get there early grab some great Chicago chow and relax for the Devo experience.  On the other hand, there was visiting Notre Dame.  I'm a mild fan of the football program.  Mainly because the floundering Charlie Weis used to coach with the Patriots.  Plus everyone talks in such glowing tones of that place.

Notre Dame was impressive.  It had such an British manor feel to it.  Lots of brick and green and more walking paths than you can shake a stick at.  The piece that stood out the most was the grand golden dome.  The dome is viewable from far points on he campus and is quite stunning.

I'm a church guy.  I typically go each week and when I need a little extra peace and quiet I seek out a place midweek.  Sometimes just to sit and be for 15 or 20 minutes.  So I like cathedrals.  I used to love the two shrines in Baltimore (Basilica and St. Jude).  The Cathedral at Notre Dame was moving.  It had a woodsy Vermont cabin feel to it.  Cabinesque but polished cabin. The place was adorned with gold, silver and white hues and felt sacred.  One thing that caught my attention was the Holy Water.  It was in a large circular reservoir and was heated.

I sat in the cathedral for a while and my timing was perfect as the clergy gathered for Vespers.  I listened for a few minutes then made my way back to the road.   To the Devo Show I Go.
