As I rolled into town I realized. "hmmm, I'm leaving Indiana. I just got to Indiana" The sign on the road read "Pure Michigan". That slogan has about as much meaning to me as the Baltimore's "Believe" one did. (It was months before I knew what they were going for with that).
The town had a John Cougar Mellencamp feel. You could kind of hear his music. Upon entry you see two Tobacco shops, one on the left and one on the right. Pure Michigan is into smoking.
Strangely the move I drove into town the more desolate it seemed
I just wanted the library.
The town was adorned with odd signs fortelling its entropy. I did find Bigfoot in that town. I've been on his case for a long time now. I get a cryptozoological victory, I'm a happy man.
I booked out of that library and hit the road again knowing that Michigan wants you to know that they are pure and that Indiana makes sure you are aware that they are the "Birthplace of Lincoln" more on that later.
A Few More Memories:
I drove past countless farms and grain silos. The oddest thing I may have seen was the Motor Home-Recreational Vehicle Hall of Fame. You can actually stop and visit this place and marvel at rolling homes.
