So this week, Kevin and I had Monday and Tuesday off for a Catalonia holiday called St. Juan. So, Monday night we went out for margaritas.
Tuesday, we decided to go check out Montjuic. Montjuic is a hill in Barcelona with breathtaking views of the city. It also houses the 1992 Olympic Stadium and the Castell de Montjuic.
Kevin and I packed a picnic lunch complete with wine and sat at the bottom of these stairs and had a romantic picnic in the park.
Then we headed up to get a view of the Olympic Stadium which was actually very cool.
Then we trekked up the large hill to the very top to visit the Castell de Montjuic. The fortress largely dates from the 17th century, with 18th century additions. In 1842 the garrison (loyal to the Madrid government) shelled parts of the city following disturbances. It served as a prison, often holding political prisoners, until the time of General Franco. The castle was the site of numerous executions. On one side of fortress is amazing views of the city, on the other is a view of the sea and the industrial port.
Inside was a military museum, which Kevin was so excited about. They had so many different types of weapons it was unreal.
Well more later, Kevin and Jaclyn
