Where I stayed
When we got to the airport, they gave Major and me first class tickets all the way through to Salt Lake City. Mom and Dad, since they don't fly as often as I do, got their normal seats. I had arranged for them to have two seats together though at least
We arrived in Salt Lake City around 2pm. Mom and Dad had been served a pretty good meal on the plane, but Major and I were hungry. I forget what they said the meal was, but they both seemed to like it. I found that odd since I never actually enjoy the meals they serve on American First Class. Major and I, back in coach, had kept trying to flag down a flight attendant for the entire flight so we could buy a snack, but it never happened. After we landed, our first stop was to go pick up our rental car. I had rented a 4x4 SUV since we were told we'd need it for some of the passes around the Jackson Hole and Yellowstone area. Hertz had told me that it would be some sort of Chevy Traverse, but when I got to the lot they had me with a white Ford Explorer 4WD. I actually didn't recognize it as an Explorer because I had not seen the new body styles
Major and I were really hungry and all of us were thirsty so we stopped on the way out of Salt Lake City in a little suburb called Centerville. We thought we were going to a McDonald's for Major, but luck had it that there was an In and Out Burger right there by the McDonald's. I just love that place and we all have fond memories of that place when we were in Loma Linda for the six weeks when Major was born. So, of course, we had to eat a hamburger. I had forgotten the special, "off menu" lingo. I ordered my burger "monster" style. The guy at the counter just laughed. He said, do you mean "animal" style. It was a great lunch. Mom and Dad were mad that they weren't hungry since they had eaten in flight, but they vowed that we must stop here on the way back. Of course, by the itinerary, we won't be back-tracking, so unless there's another In and Out along the path, that would not be possible.
It took about 3 hours to get to Idaho Falls. We stayed in the Hilton Garden Inn there. Our plan for the trip was to split everything down the middle. Major and I shared a room with Mom and Dad, so we got a room with two queen beds. The room they gave us had a nice little balcony and nice view of the Snake River. So, the room was around $130 with tax and Mom handed them her credit card and I handed them mine and just said split it down the middle. So, it was $65 each which included a good breakfast the next morning.
We were all pretty tired and we really wanted to watch the Longhorn game on TV. Dad had given Mickell his birthday money and Mickell had decided to go get a ticket and go to the game in Austin. Unfortunately, we couldn't find it on any of the stations. So, we just switched it to Animal Planet and enjoyed watching the shows about the animals. It got us ready for our upcoming adventures. Rather than going out to eat, we decided to order a pizza. Dad and I went into Idaho Falls to find pick up the pizza and fill-up the car, while Major and Mom stayed back and relaxed. I think we were all asleep by 9:30 that night and wanted to get a good rest before our adventure into the Grand Teton tomorrow.
