So, we hopped on the next bus, made it across to the other side of the region and arrived in this beautiful little town. A little sleepy in winter, a time when many of the hostels and bars are under renovation or closed for a little hibernation we arrived at our chosen place of rest only to find out the rooms were being painted. After a 30 second chat with a random guy at the fruit shop next door, we were told to go around the corner, walk a few hundred metres and look for Café Alberto. Knock on the door next to the entrance, go up a flight of stairs, and you can stay there. Right. Silly as it sounded, but game to try it, we walked over and rang the bell, down came a little old Portuguese lady. She led us up the stairs, into a spare room in her cosy apartment (which Ann said smelt of chicken soup – or grand ma smell as I more accurately called it). Offering us a rather good rate in a room furnished for someone well over 70, we stayed with Grannie for the next few nights in which we got some beach and bar time. Nice little trip, and we can see the potential this place has in the summer for a surf and party spot.
